If you have ever been to Maryland during football season you would be able to see firsthand how serious we are about Baltimore Ravens football. Lawn ornaments, inflatable blow ups of players, Ravens everything plastered all over every grocery store on football Sundays, and not to mention “Purple Friday”, where you can’t find many people not covered in Ravens gear or something purple. So needless to say, when the Ray Rice scandal hit the press I was one of the many Marylanders who were very upset.
The first video of Ray Rice dragging out his fiancé at the time Janay Palmer out of an elevator made a lot of speculation about Rice hitting her unconscious. After this video emerged Rice was suspended a couple games before being allowed to play again. A couple weeks ago, TMZ was able to get their hands on the leaked video of the actual hit itself. This video not only caused him to lose the contract he had with the Ravens, but he was also banned from the NFL.
Once the video was made public, the Raven’s didn’t have much of a choice but to let Ray Rice go. They handled the situation well with how they went about it, with keeping things professional with their press releases, and they are offering fans with a Rice jersey to be able to trade it in for other players.
A couple months ago, Woman’s National Soccer goalkeeper Hope Solo was arrested on charges of domestic abuse given to her nephew and sister. Although pleading not guilty Solo was not suspended any games, and continues to play on the Woman’s National Team.
So why is it that a woman can get away with domestic abuse and there be no consequences for her actions? Not only is this making the Woman’s National Soccer team look bad, but also what kind of negative impact is it making on the program as still after her issue being brought back up after Ray Rice being let go? The Woman’s National Team is saying that they support her decision in still allowing her to play, however if the negative speculations continue, it will be interesting to see if they stand strong to that.
Just Kicking It,
