When death happens, many things come to mind if you are a family member to the one who has passed. You have to worry about getting all their things taken care of, from their funeral to their burial to the organization of the belongings they left behind. With the recent passing of my uncle, I understand this more, and I’m happy that he didn’t have any social media. No one wants to constantly see everything around them of a loved one they lost.
Last week I was talking to my Marketing Management professor Mrs. Siler about social media after death. She was telling me how there are companies now where you pay a certain amount of money a month that if something unexpectedly happens that you can set up your social media passwords to only be allowed to the person you requested. Facebook has a long process for family members to go through after a loved one passes to be able to gain access to their page. Some family members do not want the constant reminder of seeing they lost someone, or some want to be able to filter through the comments posted on someone’s wall. I never knew this was a service that has been available. I think with this generation that this is a great service that is available to help with some of the pain of family members trying to gain access to social media accounts.
